I believe there’s a misconception about the old graphics. I could be completely wrong, but I think the difference is that things like shadows used to be baked into the maps. Then, a view would break, leaving the maps with black spots. After that, Lucas changed something in the rendering pipeline, so shadows no longer had to be baked into the maps. This made the game look “softer” and less saturated. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the quality or graphics settings.
